Other projects

I started working with the Center for Engaged Philosophy in Sheffield in 2018, and was mainly responsible for the web-presentation and online-engagement of the center. I later also co-managed a series entitled Thinking in Action, and was engaged in a project on Philosophy and Schools, organised by Angie Hobbs and Joshua Forstenzer. I designed an event booklet, and event sub-website for this project. From May 2019 to April 2021 I was the chair of the Equality Diversity and Inclusion Committee in Sheffield. I functioned as trans student rep as well, and, among other things, worked on a Gender Inclusion Policy (original draft written by Jules Holroyd, Iz González Vázquez and Rory Wilson), and co-wrote a Safer Space Policy with Rosa Vince. From March 2021 to January 2023 I was a co-chair of Minorities and Philosophy UK. My last project, together with the British and Irish Postgraduate Philosophical Association, was the creation of a collection of resources for creating Inclusive Syllabi. Before I came to the UK for my PhD, I was involved with the Philosophy student union at the University of Graz from the start of my undergraduate up to the completion of my Masters, functioning as chair from July 2015 to July 2017. Many of the past events and project mentioned above were organised in this time.

Below are some more deatils on the projects I have been involved with in the past years, and those I am currently working on. All of these are and were collaborative efforts.

June 5th- 6th 2023 – Media and Oppression. A 2-day workshop for early career researchers, University of Sheffield

July 11th-12th 2022  – UK Summer School for Trans Philosophers, University of Edinburgh; Organisers (in alphabetical order): Han Edgoose, Anna Klieber, Sophie Nagler, Alex Davin, Nick Küspert, Rory Wilson.
In recent years, trans people have become more visible in philosophy. Not only is there a growing body of work on issues surrounding the experiences of trans people, but trans philosophers themselves, whether they work on trans issues or not, are becoming more visible in the discipline. Yet, trans people continue to experience backlash and exclusion. There is a lack of space for trans philosophers to share their experiences, support each other, and take initiative with projects that could improve our conditions in philosophy overall. The goal of this summer school was to provide such a space specifically for early career trans philosophers – a space to meet each other, talk about our work, socialise and foster a community.

May 2021-Nov 2021 – Thinking in Action. Engaging Philosophy; University of Sheffield and online
This project, with the Centre for Engaged Philosophy, University of Sheffield; was a five-part series organized by six postgraduates, aimed at undergraduate, postgraduate students and the broader public, to engage them in philosophical and “outside the box” thinking. Henry Roe and I conceptualised the series, raised funding, and managed the series more broadly, which included supporting individual event organizers with advertising, organizing, finances; I was also responsible for website editing and presentation. Jules Holroyd and Johsua Forstenzer prompted us to organise this project, and gave us vital support throughout.

May 2020 – Safer Space Policy – written together with Rosa Vince
Rosa and I thought that we needed an guide how to make philosophy events (or events in general) safer for people – in light of continuing transphobic, homophobic, racist and sexual harassment at conferences, talks and workshops in philosophy. The philosophy department in Sheffield now recommends this policy to use for events – if you would like to download it, or expand it for your own uses – feel free to do so: you can find the template here (latest version, March 2021). Rosa and I have written about the need for such a policy here.

Oktober 2015 – April 2016 Kontinuitäten und Brüche. Das Grazer Philosophische Institut im Nationalsozialismus
TRANSLATION: Continuties and Discontinuities. The Department of Philosophy in Graz during National-Socialism: I initiated the project; we identified and researched which professors in the history of the department were engaged in the Nazi movement, worked out their impact, role, and professional contributions before, during, and after the war, as well as their (professional) continuities, highlighting the general failure of de-Nazification in the Austrian higher-education system. Results published as a booklet (in German only).

April 2014 – January 2014 – PhilosopHER – Wo sind die Frauen in der Philosophie?
TRANSLATION: PhilosopHER – Where are the Woman in Philosophy? The project addressed the issue of under-representation of women in professional philosophy; I conducted a survey among philosophy students, researched the history of women in philosophy, wrote texts for a booklet, and co-organized several events drawing attention to the issue.
