I’m a political philosopher of language, currently based at the Cardiff University where I work as a lecturer. My research is in the areas of political, social and feminist philosophy of language and social epistemology.
I did my PhD at the Universtiy of Sheffield. In my thesis, entitled “Your Silence Speaks Volumes”, I focus on what I call “conversational silence”, that is, silences that “do” things in our conversational exchanges, looking at their political significance from the perspective of Gricean conversational implicature. I am still working on silence, but currently also focus on the social dimension of names, in particular deadnames and gendered language more broadly (e.g. pronouns across languages). In the past, I have worked on the epistemological dimensions of trigger warnings and the epistemic role of emotions such as resentment and ressentiment. Here you can find out more about more on my current work in progress, and here more about my published work.
I am strongly interested in social and political philosophy, trans philosophy, critical race theory and feminist philosophy more broadly.
Before coming to Sheffield, I was at the University of Graz in Austria, where I studied philosophy and sociology to MA-Level. My philosophy MA dissertation was on the destruction of subjectivity in Nazi-concentration camps. My sociology MA dissertation was on resentment, ressentiment and the far-right.
When I don’t do philosophy, I can usually be found engaging in some kind of circus activity, running or on long walks. I also collect postcards.
